And the very name Daewoo in translation means "Great Universe". Significant changes in 1972 in the legislative sphere, which at the state level, clearly defined the rights of companies to produce cars, affected the fate of the Daewoo.

Korean leadership allowed only 4 companies to produce cars: Kia, Hyundai Motor, Asia Motors. Soon, KIA and Asia Motors merged, and Shinjin became a structural division of General Motors and Daewoo. Quite a bit of time passed, and the company Daewoo was renamed Daewoo Motor.

Since its founding Daewoo company rapidly grew and developed, until 1993 closely cooperated with

world famous corporation General Motors.

By the end of 1995 - beginning of 1996 Daewoo had 3 superbly equipped technical centers. The first was located in the UK, second in Germany, third in Korea itself.

Since 1988 in mass production, the Tico model was released - a mini hatchback with front-wheel drive, which

was created on the basis of the Suzuki Alto and was ideal for getting around the city.

1993 was marked by the appearance of the Daewoo Prince, as well as its more charged version, Daewoo Brougham. This car model has become a fairly successful analogue of the discontinued Opel Senator.

In 1995 Daewoo begins to conquer global automotive market: in Germany, two new company models, Daewoo Nexia and Daewoo Espero.

The progenitor of the Nexia was the Opel Cadet E. Cars were supplied to the US and Canadian markets under the name Pontiac Le Mans. predecessor Daewoo Espero became Opel Ascona, and the model itself was designed by the company Bertone.

At the end of 1997, for consideration 3 new models of the company were presented to the international public: Daewoo Lanos, Daewoo Nubira and Daewoo Leganza.

Daewoo Lanos was the first independent development of the company, and it took 2. 5 years to create it. The Daewoo Nubira design that replaced the Espero was made by the English company I. D. E. A., and from the moment of design to full-scale 32 months have passed since the production of the car.

Daewoo Leganza became a pen test of the Korean company in the business class segment, is the most stylish and charged model of the company Daewoo.

In 1998 a Daewoo Matiz A-class car was presented. Compact and economical, he fell in love with car owners and began to be snapped up at a rapid pace.

In 2000, a restyled model of the Daewoo Matiz was released.

In 1998 there was a financial crisis that affected all countries of Asia. Daewoo at this time is undergoing significant

losses and is on the verge of bankruptcy, but the government does not take a decision about its nationalization and lets everything take its course.

Since 2002, Daewoo has officially passed into the hands of General Motors. Part of the shares of the South Korean company Daewoo in 2005, the car manufacturer from Uzbekistan UzDaewooAvto acquires, and already in 2008, the creation of a new company, GM Uzbekistan, was announced.
