We're increasingly hearing announcements about the Apple Car and new Tesla models.

However, many overlook the fact that Chinese tech giants have also long been targeting leadership in the automotive segment - and they have every opportunity to do so.

This time, Xiaomi emerged as the leading contender.

Founded in 2010, in its fifteen years of existence, it has become one of the world's largest smartphone suppliers.

Xiaomi accumulated extensive experience in creating intelligent software and developing services based on the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence (AIoT).

But perhaps most importantly, the company has significant financial resources that it is willing to invest in electric vehicle production.

Xiaomi has set an ambitious goal: to offer the world high-quality, intelligent electric vehicles. The company competes not only with established automotive companies like Geely, but also with players like Nio, BYD, and Xpeng Motors.

The company sees this as a profitable business. The electric vehicle market in China has demonstrated robust growth for several years running: according to industry analysts, annual electric vehicle sales in the country will exceed several million units by 2025–2026.

Internet companies are also actively exploring the electric vehicle sector. One example is Chinese company Baidu, which has established an independent subsidiary in this field. The boom in China's electric vehicle sector is driven by strong political support from Beijing.

Subsidies and promotion have borne fruit, as evidenced by the steady growth of vehicle registrations and growing competition in the market.

Xiaomi's first mass-produced electric vehicle, the SU7 sedan, was unveiled in late 2023 and went on sale in China in 2024, generating tremendous interest from both buyers and industry experts.

The lineup continues to expand in 2026.
